A Guide to Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point
Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point officially opened in 2024, on the island of Eleuthera, and it feels a little different from Castaway Cay. While Castaway leans more classic Disney beach day, Lookout Cay feels much more rooted in Bahamian culture, art, music, and natural beauty.
Whether your family wants beach time, water play, cultural experiences, character sightings, or just a slower relaxing day in the sun, here’s what to expect at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
First Things First: The Pier Walk
One thing you should know before you arrive is that Lookout Cay does require a pretty long pier walk after getting off the ship. The pier was built like this to help protect the coral reef and all of the marine life living in the area!
The walk usually takes around 10 to 15 minutes and there is no shade, so the sun can feel intense. There’s ocean breeze and music playing along the way, which helps, but definitely wear comfy shoes and put sunscreen on before leaving the ship.
If you’re traveling with little kids, a lightweight stroller is probably worth bringing because forgetting something back onboard can turn into a much bigger trip than it is at Castaway Cay.
There are also golf carts available for guests who need mobility assistance, but it’s important to request that through Guest Services onboard as early as possible.
Welcome to Lookout Cay
The first area guests arrive at is Mabrika Cove. “Mabrika” means welcome and the entire arrival area is designed to introduce guests to the warmth, music, and traditions of Eleuthera. Disney worked with local musicians and artists to create an authentic Bahamian culture.
This is also where you’ll find the tram that takes you farther into the island. The tram ride has really cute narration on your way to the island, so be sure to pay attention!
The Beaches at Lookout Cay
Family Beach
The main Family Beach area is huge and has beautiful bright blue water with lots of room to spread out.
There are lounge chairs, umbrellas, dining nearby, splash areas, and activities throughout the area, so it works really well for families who want an easy beach day with everything close by.
One thing to know is that the island is still newer, so there isn’t a ton of natural shade yet. Definitely bring hats, sunscreen, and anything else that helps your family stay cool.
Serenity Bay
Just like Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay also has a Serenity Bay adults-only beach area, and it’s one of the quietest spaces on the island.
This is where you go if you want calmer water, lounge chairs, fewer crowds, and a slower beach day. There’s also an adults-only lunch spot and the Blue Hole Bar nearby for drinks throughout the day.
If your family plans to use the kids club for part of the afternoon, this is such a good place to spend a few peaceful hours.
Mabrika Cove Cabanas
Families wanting a more private beach setup can also rent cabanas near Mabrika Cove. There are even double cabanas available for larger groups traveling together.
These tend to book quickly, so if this is something your family wants, definitely reserve as early as possible.
Things to Do at Lookout Cay
One thing Disney did really well here is making the island feel interactive without feeling overwhelming.
Goombay Cultural Center
The Goombay Cultural Center is basically the heart of the island’s entertainment and culture.
This is where guests can experience RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration, which includes music, dancing, drumming, colorful costumes, and a huge parade atmosphere inspired by authentic Bahamian traditions.
The whole thing ends with a dance party alongside Disney characters, and it feels really lively and fun without losing the cultural focus of the experience.
Play-Play Pavilion
The Play-Play Pavilion is where a lot of the family games and activities happen throughout the day.
There are beach games, Disney character hosted activities, limbo, water games, and interactive fun set to Bahamian inspired Disney music.
It feels very playful and energetic, especially for families with younger kids.
Water Play Areas
Rush Out Gush Out is the big colorful family splash zone near the Goombay Cultural Center and is probably one of the first things kids notice when they arrive.
There’s also a Little Mermaid inspired splash area designed for younger kids who want to cool off without spending the whole day in the ocean.
Dining at Lookout Cay
Lunch is included on the island, and the food at Lookout Cay feels a little more unique than a typical cruise beach barbecue.
The main lunch spots are True-True BBQ and True-True Too BBQ, while Serenity Bay BBQ is reserved for adults only.
Alongside classic cruise favorites like burgers and fries, there are also dishes inspired by Bahamian flavors and ingredients, including rotisserie chicken with island spices, pigeon peas and rice, grilled snapper, fried okra, plantains, and island curry dishes.
And yes, there’s still soft serve.
Drinks and Snack Stops
There are bars and drink stands all over the island serving smoothies, mocktails, cocktails, coffee drinks, and frozen beverages.
A few standouts include:
• Eleuthera Euphoria, a DOLE Whip and rum drink that feels very vacation coded.
• Bahama Brew, which is basically cold brew coffee topped with coconut soft whip.
• Butterfly Switcha, a lemonade and butterfly pea jasmine green tea mocktail with blue glitter that kids and adults both end up ordering.
One thing to know is that some drink stands start closing fairly early in the afternoon, so don’t wait until the very end of the day if there’s something you want to try.
Shopping on the Island
Lookout Cay has several shopping spots throughout the island with both Disney Cruise Line merchandise and locally made crafts.
Disney T’ings is the main merchandise shop and has exclusive Lookout Cay items like spirit jerseys, Loungefly bags, tropical Minnie ears, plushes, and Junkanoo inspired merchandise you can only buy there.
There are also locally crafted gifts and artisan items available at Treasures of Eleuthera.
Kids Clubs and Teen Spaces
Disney Cruise Line still brings the kids club experience onto the island too.
Sebastian’s Cove
Sebastian’s Cove is the supervised kids club area on Lookout Cay, and it gives parents a chance to enjoy adult-only spaces while kids participate in games, activities, crafts, and water play with Disney counselors.
There’s even a kids-only lunch area inside the club, which is really helpful for families planning longer excursions or adults-only beach time.
Teen Activities
Tweens and teens also have activities happening throughout the island during the day, all listed inside the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.
Helpful Tips for Your Day
• Eat breakfast onboard before leaving the ship since lunch is the main meal served on the island.
• Bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and plenty of water because shade is still limited in many areas.
• Bring your Key to the World card for everyone in your party, plus a government-issued ID for adults.
• Check the Navigator app for character appearances, activities, and entertainment schedules throughout the day.
• Leave yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship because between the tram ride and pier walk, transportation takes longer than many people expect.
Why Families Love Lookout Cay
Lookout Cay feels less like a cruise port and more like spending the day inside a beautifully designed tropical retreat with Disney details layered throughout it. There’s still entertainment, characters, activities, and Disney magic, but the whole experience feels calmer and more rooted in the culture and beauty of the island itself.
For families who want a beach day that feels relaxing, scenic, and a little different from the typical cruise experience, Lookout Cay ends up being a really memorable stop.
