Disney Wish: What to Expect on This Magical Cruise Ship

This ship overview is helpful but when you book your Disney cruise with Travel Grown, you’ll receive a much more detailed ship guide packed with tips, strategies, and everything you actually need to know before you sail so you can board feeling prepared instead of overwhelmed.

If you’re planning a Disney cruise, the Disney Wish is one of the newest ships in the fleet and the whole ship feels really impressive from the moment you walk onboard. Everything feels bright, modern, and full of Disney details without losing that cozy Disney Cruise Line feeling people love.

The atrium alone feels like stepping into a storybook, and the ship does a really good job balancing big exciting entertainment with quieter relaxing spaces. You can spend the morning meeting characters, ride the AquaMouse with your kids in the afternoon, grab a coffee or cocktail in an adults only lounge later on, and then end the night watching a Broadway style Disney show.

Whether you’re cruising with little kids, teenagers, extended family, or just doing a couples trip, the Wish has a little bit of everything. It’s one of those ships that feels magical without feeling stressful, which is a huge reason so many families love it.

The Ship at a Glance

The moment you step into the Grand Hall, the whole ship feels different in the best way. It has this giant storybook castle feeling mixed with a luxury resort vibe. The entire space is themed around Cinderella, with gold details, soft lighting, twinkling chandeliers, and music playing in the background that somehow makes the whole area feel exciting and peaceful at the same time.

The Disney Wish definitely feels more modern than the older ships, but it still has so many playful Disney details worked into the design. Everywhere you look, there’s something beautiful or whimsical tucked into the ship.

Rooms & Ship Layout: Disney Magic in Every Detail

The staterooms on the Disney Wish were clearly designed with families in mind. Most rooms have the split bathroom setup, which makes getting everyone ready so much easier, especially after pool time or before dinner. There’s also surprisingly good storage for luggage and all the random things families bring on cruises, and the beds are really comfortable.

But beyond being practical, the rooms are just really pretty. Each stateroom has subtle Disney theming inspired by movies like Moana, Frozen, The Little Mermaid, and Sleeping Beauty. It doesn’t feel over the top or overly cartoonish. The details are more soft and elegant, which makes the rooms still feel relaxing while keeping that Disney magic.

The Disney Wish has 15 decks, but the layout is actually really easy to figure out once you’re onboard. Elevators and signs make it simple to get around, and after a day or two you start knowing exactly where your favorite coffee shop, pool area, or snack spot is. One of the things Disney does really well is making such a big ship still feel comfortable and manageable for families.

Want a specific room theme?

If your family has a favorite Disney movie, you might want to request a stateroom with a specific theme when you book your cruise. The Disney Wish has different story themes throughout the ship depending on which deck your room is on, which is such a fun little detail.

  • Decks 2, 6, & 7Cinderella and Frozen

  • Decks 8 & 9Sleeping Beauty and The Princess & The Frog

  • Decks 10 & 11Moana and The Little Mermaid

The theming is done in a really pretty subtle way with artwork, colors, and little design details inspired by the movies. It doesn’t feel childish or over the top, just very Disney in a cozy elegant way.

And if your family has a strong preference, definitely let us know early.

Dining: Rotational Style with Signature Disney Magic

One of the things people love most about Disney Cruise Line is the rotational dining. Instead of eating in the same restaurant every night, you rotate through different themed restaurants throughout your cruise, which keeps dinner feeling fun and different each night.

But the part that makes it really cool is that your serving team rotates with you. Your waiter and assistant waiter get to know your family really quickly. They remember your kids’ favorite drinks, what desserts you liked the night before, and all the little details that make dinner feel easy instead of stressful. By the end of the cruise, it feels less like restaurant service and more like seeing familiar faces every night.

Here are the three main dining experiences onboard the Disney Wish:

  • Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure - This restaurant feels more like dinner and a live show combined. Throughout the meal, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf appear for music, storytelling, and performances that make the whole experience feel really lively and fun. Families with Frozen fans usually LOVE this one.

  • 1923 - 1923 has a much quieter and more elegant atmosphere compared to the other restaurants onboard. It’s named after the year The Walt Disney Company was founded and feels very old Hollywood with Disney history and animation artwork throughout the restaurant. The menu is California inspired, and the whole space feels really classy while still being cozy.

  • Worlds of Marvel - Worlds of Marvel is one of the most unique dining experiences Disney Cruise Line has ever done. The whole dinner is interactive and built around Marvel storytelling, technology, and superhero action happening throughout the meal. You may even see Ant-Man and the Wasp during dinner, which kids especially get excited about.

You can learn more about how this works in our rotational dining guide.

Beyond the main dining restaurants, there are also tons of other places to grab food throughout the Disney Wish, whether you want a quick breakfast, poolside lunch, late night snack, or coffee break.

  • Marceline Market

Marceline Market is the main buffet onboard and it’s open for breakfast and lunch each day. The whole space feels much more modern and upscale than a typical cruise buffet, with different food stations, lots of variety, and subtle theming inspired by Walt Disney’s hometown.

  • Wheezy’s Freezies

Wheezy’s Freezies is a really fun little poolside stop for frozen fruit smoothies and cold drinks throughout the day. It’s one of those places kids always seem to notice while walking by the pool deck.

  • Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods

This is the main quick service food area on the pool deck and probably where families end up grabbing food most often during the cruise. There are tacos, burgers, BBQ, pizza, sandwiches, soft serve ice cream, and other grab and go options that make pool days really easy.

  • Cove Café

Cove Café is one of the quieter adults only spaces onboard and a really nice place to grab specialty coffee in the morning or cocktails later in the evening. It has a much calmer atmosphere compared to the busier family areas of the ship.

  • Room Service

And one of the best things about Disney Cruise Line is that room service is included. You can order food to your stateroom 24 hours a day, whether you want late night Mickey bars, coffee in the morning, or breakfast delivered while everyone gets ready for the day.

  • Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté

If you want a special adults only dinner during your cruise, Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté are the two upscale dining experiences onboard. Palo Steakhouse has a more modern steakhouse feel while still keeping the Italian inspired touches Disney Cruise Line is known for. Enchanté is the more elevated fine dining experience inspired by Beauty and the Beast, and it’s one of the fanciest restaurants on any Disney ship.

Live Shows

One of the things Disney Cruise Line does really well is the entertainment. The shows on the Disney Wish genuinely feel like Broadway productions, and they’re such a fun way to introduce live theatre to kids without it feeling overly formal or intimidating.

The Disney Wish features three main stage shows onboard:

  • Disney The Little Mermaid – This is a reimagined version of the classic movie with updated visuals, huge set pieces, and really impressive choreography throughout the show. If your family loves The Little Mermaid, this one is usually a favorite.

  • Disney Seas the Adventure – This show has more of a fun feel good Disney Cruise Line energy and is themed around adventure, dreams, and setting sail. You’ll see appearances from several Disney characters throughout the performance, and it really captures that “we’re on vacation” feeling.

  • Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular – Aladdin is full of humor, big musical numbers, and a really fun Genie performance that keeps both kids and adults entertained. The production quality on Disney Cruise Line shows is just really well done.

And the entertainment doesn’t stop at the theatre. Throughout the cruise there are deck parties, character meet and greets, trivia, game shows, movie nights, and activities happening all over the ship. The Disney Wish also shows first run Disney movies onboard, which is always really fun if a new release happens while you’re sailing.

Entertainment on the Disney Wish

There’s so much to do on the Disney Wish, whether your family wants nonstop activities or you’re just looking for a slower relaxing day onboard.

One of the biggest attractions on the ship is the AquaMouse, which is basically part waterslide and part Disney attraction. Instead of just being a regular waterslide, the ride includes animated Mickey and Minnie scenes, music, lighting, and story elements while you ride through clear tubes high above the ship. It’s one of those things both kids and adults end up wanting to ride more than once.

The pool deck itself is also really fun, with family pools, splash areas for younger kids, hot tubs, and giant screens playing Disney movies throughout the day. It’s easy to spend an entire afternoon up there going back and forth between swimming, snacks, and watching movies by the pool.

If you need a quieter break from the busier family areas, Quiet Cove is the adults only pool area onboard and it really does feel like a little hidden retreat. There’s an infinity pool, lounge chairs, hot tubs, and nearby bar service, so it’s a really easy place to slow down for a while during the cruise.

One of my favorite times to come up here is early in the morning with a coffee before the rest of the ship fully wakes up. It’s also really nice in the evenings when everything feels quieter and you can just sit out there watching the sunset over the ocean for a little while.

  • Currents is another really great spot onboard if you just want to sit outside and enjoy the ocean views for a while. It’s an open air bar up on Deck 13 with a really relaxed breezy atmosphere, and it’s very easy to accidentally stay there longer than you planned.

  • Right nearby, Cove Café is one of the best quieter adults only spaces on the ship. It has more of a laid back tropical coffee shop feel, and it’s just as good for iced lattes in the morning as it is for cocktails later at night. Disney Cruise Line also offers adult beverage tastings onboard like wine tastings, whiskey classes, and mixology experiences if you want something a little extra during your cruise.

  • And then there’s Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, which is probably one of the coolest themed lounges Disney has ever done on a ship. During the day, families can stop in and look out the giant “windows” into different planets from the Star Wars universe, but at night it becomes an adults only lounge with specialty cocktails and a really immersive atmosphere. It definitely feels like one of those experiences you can only really get on a Disney cruise.

And the entertainment onboard really never slows down. Throughout the cruise there are deck parties, character meet and greets, trivia, movie nights, game shows, and activities happening all over the ship, so there’s pretty much always something going on if you want it.

Kids & Teens Clubs on the Disney Wish

One of the things Disney Cruise Line does really well is creating spaces that actually feel designed for every age group, especially kids and teens. The Disney Wish has some of the most impressive kids spaces in the fleet, and they feel way more immersive than a typical cruise kids club.

For babies and toddlers, it’s a small world nursery is a really sweet quieter space where little ones can nap, play, and be cared for in a calm environment while parents get a little break. It’s a really nice option if you want to book an adults only dinner, spend some time at the spa, or just relax for a little while without feeling rushed.

Unlike the other kids clubs onboard, the nursery isn’t included in your cruise fare. It does require reservations and has an additional hourly fee, so if you think you’ll want to use it during your cruise, it’s a good idea to reserve times as early as possible.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club is usually where kids (10 - 13) end up wanting to spend most of their time onboard. The whole space feels more like stepping inside different Disney worlds than a normal kids club. There are themed rooms, interactive games, activities, crafts, and character visits throughout the cruise, so there’s always something happening.

It’s one of those places where kids genuinely get excited to go back to every day, and parents usually feel really comfortable knowing how thoughtfully Disney runs everything.

For tweens ages 11 to 14, Edge has more of a laid back hangout feel with movies, games, music, and creative activities, but with a little more freedom and independence built in for that age group. It feels less like childcare and more like their own fun space onboard.

Vibe is the teen space onboard for ages 14 to 17, and it feels much more like a trendy teen lounge than a traditional kids club. There are places to hang out, listen to music, play games, watch movies, and meet other teens throughout the cruise. Disney does a really good job making it feel fun and age appropriate without feeling overly structured.

And one thing that makes the Disney Wish a little different is The Hideaway, which is designed for the in between age group of 18 to 20 year olds. It gives older teens and young adults their own place to hang out and relax without feeling like they’re stuck between the teen spaces and the adult areas onboard.

One of the best things about Disney Cruise Line is that every age group really does have their own version of fun. Whether your kids are toddlers, tweens, or teenagers, there’s a really good chance they’ll find spaces they genuinely love, which also gives parents a chance to slow down and enjoy some grown up time too.

Health & Fitness on Disney Wish

If you want a little relaxation or a way to balance out all the cruise food, the Disney Wish has some really nice wellness spaces onboard too.

  • The Senses Spa is one of the prettiest quieter areas on the ship and offers massages, facials, salon services, and spa treatments throughout the cruise. The whole space feels really calm and relaxing, which is a nice break from the busier family areas onboard.

  • The Fitness Center has updated equipment, huge ocean views, and plenty of room if you want to get a workout in during your trip. It’s actually a really nice gym for a cruise ship.

  • There are also fitness and wellness classes offered throughout the sailing, including things like yoga and stretching classes if you want something a little slower paced while you’re onboard.

Why Families Love the Disney Wish

The Disney Wish feels really different from the older Disney ships in the best way. It’s bigger, more modern, and packed with experiences, but it still keeps that cozy Disney Cruise Line feeling families love. Everywhere you turn there’s some little detail, beautiful space, or fun activity that makes the whole ship feel really special.

Whether this is your very first Disney cruise or you’ve sailed with Disney before, the Wish has a way of feeling exciting while still being really easy and relaxing for families. There’s so much to do onboard, but it never feels like you have to do everything to have a great trip.

If you already have a Disney Wish cruise booked, you have so much to look forward to. And if you’re still deciding which ship to choose, the Wish is such a good option for families who want a more modern Disney Cruise Line experience with a lot of entertainment, dining, and things to do onboard.
