How to Use Disneyland PhotoPass to Capture Magical Memories

Disneyland PhotoPass is an easy way to make sure everyone in your group shows up in your vacation photos. Instead of one person being stuck behind the camera all day, PhotoPass photographers are stationed throughout the parks to take high quality photos for you. Many of them are standing right in front of iconic locations like Sleeping Beauty Castle. All you have to do is walk up, smile, and let them work their magic.

Note: If you are booking the Lightning Lane MultiPass, you will have PhotoPass photos included for that day. You do not need to purchase an extra PhotoPass.

How PhotoPass Works

After your photos are taken, you can link them to your account in a few different ways. You can scan a PhotoPass card, scan your theme park ticket in the Disneyland app, or tap a MagicBand+. Your photos will show up in your account once they load, and you can view them in the app or on your computer.

The Disneyland app even shows where photographers are located each day. If you love planning your photo moments, this is a helpful tool.

PhotoPass Options and Pricing

You can view PhotoPass photos for free, but downloading them requires a purchase unless you have a plan that includes downloads. Pricing below is very subjective to change.

Here are the current options:

Single Photo Download

$17 per image.

One Day of Photos

$25 - $40 for all the photos taken that day. This does not include Lightning Lane access.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

Begins at $34 per day and includes unlimited PhotoPass downloads plus access to Lightning Lane entrances and PhotoPass Lenses. This means if you booked LLMP, you do NOT need to purchase a photo pass for that day.

PhotoPass+ One Week

$78 for seven consecutive days of photos. This option does not include Lightning Lane access.

If you want unlimited photos but not the ride benefits, you can purchase PhotoPass for just one member of your group and have the photographers scan that person’s app or MagicBand+. If multiple people want Lightning Lane access, each person needs to purchase it.

PhotoPass+ One Week

For longer trips, the One Week plan may be the most cost-effective option. It covers seven days of PhotoPass photos, and once activated, all images taken between 6 a.m. and 5:59 a.m. the following day will appear without watermarks.

Make sure to choose the correct start date when you activate your plan. Photos taken before your chosen date will still show watermarks.

Using the Disneyland App

The Disneyland app is essential for managing PhotoPass. You can show your PhotoPass code to photographers, link photos, view your gallery, use PhotoPass Lenses, and download images.

Photos load into your app throughout the day, though Magic Shots sometimes take longer. If anything is missing, you can visit Photo Concierge in the Esplanade, located between the two parks. This is the best place to resolve PhotoPass issues if you do not have a park ticket for that day.

On-Ride Photos

Many Disneyland attractions take on-ride photos, including:

  • Space Mountain

  • Incredicoaster

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT

  • Radiator Springs Racers

  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

To link your ride photo, type the number shown above the monitor into the app. I like to snap a quick picture of the screen so I can reference the number later in case it doesn’t load immediately.

Magic Shots

Magic Shots add a little surprise to your photos. A photographer may ask you to hold out your hand, look in a certain direction, or react to something you cannot see. When your photos load, you might discover characters, balloons, sparkles, or even animated overlays.

There are seasonal Magic Shots for Halloween, Christmas, and special celebrations. In Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Magic Shots are called holograms and the photographers are called imagers.

Will Photographers Use Your Camera?

Yes. PhotoPass photographers are happy to take photos with your phone or camera in addition to their own. This is especially helpful if you do not plan to purchase a PhotoPass package but still want nice family photos.

Where to Find PhotoPass Photographers

Locations vary, but you can usually find photographers in front of:

Disneyland Park

  • Main Entrance

  • Town Square

  • Partners Statue

  • Sleeping Beauty Castle

  • Sword in the Stone

  • Mad Tea Party

  • Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge locations

  • Toontown

  • Popular holiday installations

Disney California Adventure

  • Avengers Campus

  • Buena Vista Street

  • Pixar Pier

  • Cars Land entrance and Route 66

  • Grizzly Peak Waterfall

  • San Fransokyo Square

The Disneyland app map is the easiest way to track photographer locations throughout the day.

Making the Most of PhotoPass

PhotoPass simplifies your day by letting you step out from behind the camera. You get to be part of the memories instead of documenting them from the sidelines. With so many scenic locations and talented photographers in the parks, it is one of the simplest ways to bring home special photos from your trip.
