Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort
After years of planning Disney vacations, I finally had the chance to check out Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort with my family. If you’ve ever wondered whether this resort is worth it, here’s my honest review.
First Things First: This Is Not Disney World at the Beach
One of the biggest misconceptions about Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is that it’s basically a Disney theme park vacation on the ocean.
It is not.
Instead, think of it as a relaxing Hilton Head beach vacation with Disney’s incredible service, attention to detail, and family-friendly activities sprinkled throughout.
For our family, that was actually a huge plus.
The Pros
Disney Service and Attention to Detail
The cast members were fantastic. From activities around the resort to simple interactions throughout our stay, there was a level of service that Disney fans have come to expect.
The resort feels peaceful, welcoming, and incredibly family-focused.
Great for Families
Our kids loved the pools, activities, and exploring the resort grounds. Pin trading at the Broad Creek Mercantile Shop was a highlight!
You can find Disney DoleWhip at the restaurant closest to the pool and Pluto, Chip and Dale frequent the main areas.
There was always something to do without feeling like we needed a strict itinerary. It was the perfect balance of vacation and entertainment.
The Bike Trails
One of my favorite things about Hilton Head in general is the incredible bike path system, and Disney’s resort makes it easy to take advantage of it.
Biking around the island became one of our favorite family activities.
The Beach House
While the resort itself is not located directly on the beach, Disney operates a private Beach House for guests.
The shuttle service makes it easy to spend the day at the beach while still enjoying the amenities of the resort.
A True Relaxing Vacation
As someone who plans a lot of Disney World vacations, I loved having a trip where the goal wasn’t to maximize every minute.
There were no Lightning Lanes to book, no dining reservations to stress over, and no pressure to accomplish everything.
It was simply about spending time together.
The Cons
You’ll Want a Car
If you plan to explore Hilton Head, visit restaurants, or see more of the island, having a vehicle is very helpful.
The Resort Isn’t Beachfront
This is probably the biggest surprise for many guests.
You can’t simply walk out of your room and onto the beach. You’ll need to take the shuttle or drive to Disney’s Beach House.
For us, it wasn’t a deal breaker, but it’s definitely something to know before booking.
Limited Dining Options
Compared to Disney World resorts, dining options are much more limited.
Thankfully Hilton Head has some incredible local restaurants, but you’ll likely find yourself leaving the resort for many meals.
Our top 2 favorite restaurants on the island were Hudson’s and Dockside. They both had 10/10 food and are on the waterfront. We saw gators, dolphins and manatees while we ate. It was so fun!
Definitely don’t miss the 5 minute walking across the harbor and visiting Hilton Head Social Bakery. They had the best coffee and pastries of the whole trip!
Not for Guests Looking for Theme Parks
If your family wants nonstop Disney attractions, characters everywhere, and constant entertainment, this may not be the best fit.
The Disney touches are there, but they’re subtle.
Would I go to Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort again?
Absolutely.
What I loved most was the slower pace. We spent time at the beach, rode bikes, enjoyed great food, and simply got to be together as a family.
Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort isn’t Disney World on the ocean. It was Hilton Head with pixie dust and we loved that about it.
If you’re looking for a family vacation that combines the relaxation of Hilton Head with the service and magic Disney is known for, this hidden gem deserves a spot on your list.
