Meet The Disney Dream Cruise Ship
This ship overview is helpful but when you book your Disney cruise with Travel Grown, you’ll receive a much more detailed ship guide packed with tips, strategies, and everything you actually need to know before you sail so you can board feeling prepared instead of overwhelmed.
If you’re thinking about sailing on the Disney Dream, or you already have a cruise booked and just want to know what it’s like, here’s a walkthrough of the ship. The Disney Dream first set sail in 2010 and recently underwent a major refurbishment in 2024. Compared to the older Disney ships, the Dream feels bigger, more modern, and packed with things to do, while still keeping that classic Disney Cruise Line feeling families love.
Meet the Disney Dream
The first thing you’ll see when you step onboard is the atrium lobby. The grand staircase, chandeliers, and elegant details throughout the lobby make the whole ship feel really impressive right away.
The Disney Dream has 14 decks and holds around 3,500 guests, so it definitely feels larger than the Disney Magic and Wonder. But Disney does a really good job with the layout, so it never feels confusing or hard to navigate.
Rooms & Ship Layout: Cozy, Family-Friendly Comfort
The staterooms on the Disney Dream were clearly designed for families. Most rooms have the split bathroom setup, which makes getting everyone ready so much easier, especially after pool time or before dinner. There’s also surprisingly good storage for luggage and all the random things families bring on cruises, and the beds are really comfortable.
The rooms feel more modern than the classic ships, but still cozy and timeless in a way that feels very Disney Cruise Line. You’ll notice little Disney details throughout like nautical touches, classic artwork, and thoughtful layouts that make life onboard easier.
There are inside rooms, oceanview rooms, verandahs, and concierge suites depending on your budget and what kind of trip you want to have. But no matter which room category you choose, Disney does a really good job making the ship feel easy and relaxing to live in for the week.
Inside Rooms have a magical porthole!
This is a virtual porthole that is filmed in real time with some magical Disney elements that pop up from time to time.
Rotational Dining on the Disney Dream
One of the things people love most about Disney Cruise Line is the rotational dining. Instead of eating in the same restaurant every night, you rotate through three different themed restaurants throughout your cruise, which keeps dinner feeling fun and different each night.
But the part that makes it really cool is that your serving team rotates with you. Your waiter and assistant waiter get to know your family really quickly. They remember your kids’ favorite drinks, what desserts you liked the night before, and all the little details that make dinner feel easy instead of stressful. You get to know your waitstaff and they are always thrilled to see you. By the end of the cruise, it feels less like restaurant service and more like seeing familiar faces every night.
You can learn more about how this works in our rotational dining guide.
Enchanted Garden
Enchanted Garden has a really beautiful calmer atmosphere compared to some of the other restaurants onboard. The whole space is designed to feel like an elegant garden in France, with fountains, flower lights, white trellises, and greenery throughout the restaurant. As dinner goes on, the lighting changes and the restaurant slowly transforms from daytime into evening, which is such a cool detail.
Animator’s Palate
Animator’s Palate is probably one of the most iconic Disney Cruise Line restaurants. The Dream’s version is themed around Finding Nemo, and the whole restaurant feels colorful and interactive from the moment you walk in. During dinner, Crush and other Finding Nemo characters appear on giant screens throughout the restaurant and interact with guests in real time. Kids especially love this one because it feels more like dinner inside a Disney attraction than a regular restaurant.
Royal Palace
Royal Palace feels like stepping inside a Disney fairytale ballroom. The restaurant pulls inspiration from classic Disney princess movies like Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast, and the whole space feels really elegant and classic Disney. It’s usually the quieter dinner night during the cruise, but still feels really special.
Casual Dining and Quick Bites
Cabanas is the main buffet on the Disney Dream and it’s open for breakfast and lunch each day. There’s a huge variety of food, so it’s an easy option when everyone in the family wants something different or you just want a laid back meal between activities.
Up on the pool deck, there are several quick service spots for grab and go food throughout the day like Flo’s Cafe, Frozone Treats, and Eye Scream Treats. The unlimited soft serve ice cream is basically a core Disney Cruise memory for kids.
And one of the best things about Disney Cruise Line is that room service is included. You can order food to your stateroom 24 hours a day, whether you want late night Mickey bars, coffee in the morning, or breakfast delivered while everyone gets ready for the day.
Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats is another really fun stop onboard, especially if your family loves desserts and candy. This location is an additional charge, but kids usually go absolutely crazy for it.
Adults‑Only Experiences
Adults will find plenty of spaces designed just for them onboard the Disney Dream. Quiet Cove on Deck 11 is the adults only pool area and one of the best places to slow down during the cruise. It has its own pools, hot tubs, and lounge chairs, so if you need a break from the louder family areas for a little while, this is usually where people end up.
Right nearby, you’ll also find Cove Café, which serves specialty coffee, tea, cocktails, and complimentary baked treats in a really calm quieter atmosphere.
If you want a special adults only dinner during your cruise, Palo is the extra dining experience onboard and it’s a favorite for date nights at sea. It has a more upscale feel with Italian food, ocean views, and a slower quieter atmosphere that feels really nice after a busy day with kids.
For an even more elevated experience, Remy offers French inspired fine dining themed after Ratatouille. This is one of the fanciest dining experiences on any Disney ship and requires advance reservations and an additional fee.
The Disney Dream also has several lounges and bars throughout the ship like Pink Wine and Champagne Bar, Evolution, Meridian, and Skyline Bar. Throughout the cruise, these spaces host trivia, live music, game shows, and adult only entertainment at night.
Entertainment Onboard
The evenings on the Disney Dream are one of the things that make Disney cruises feel really different from other cruise lines. Every night, there’s big Broadway style entertainment in the Walt Disney Theatre, and the shows are genuinely impressive.
The Disney Dream’s main stage shows include:
Beauty and the Beast
The Golden Mickeys
Disney’s Believe
Beauty and the Beast is usually the fan favorite, especially if your family loves the movie. The production quality on Disney Cruise Line shows is just really well done.
You can also watch first run Disney movies in the onboard movie theatre or catch movies out on the pool deck at night, which feels extra magical with the ocean in the background.
Character meet and greets happen throughout the cruise as well, with opportunities to meet princesses, classic Disney characters, Captain Mickey, and more.
The Midship Detective Agency is another family favorite onboard. This interactive scavenger hunt sends guests all over the ship solving mysteries using enchanted artwork and clues, and it’s one of those activities kids end up talking about long after the cruise.
Pirate Night includes a deck party and fireworks at sea, which is something Disney Cruise Line is really known for. Kids love it, but honestly adults get just as into Pirate Night too.
Pools, Recreation, and Slides
The Disney Dream has several pools and water play areas throughout the ship, so there’s usually something for every age group. Families tend to spend most of their time around the main family pools, while younger kids love the Nemo themed splash areas.
One thing that makes the Disney Dream really famous is the AquaDuck. It was the first water coaster at sea and is still one of the most popular attractions onboard. The ride sends guests through clear tubing high above the ship and even out over the ocean, which feels both terrifying and really fun at the same time.
The pool deck also has a Mickey themed waterslide, family pools, hot tubs, and a giant screen playing Disney movies throughout the day and evening.
Up on Goofy’s Sports Deck, there are also things like mini golf, basketball, and sports games if your family likes staying active between meals and pool time. Deck 4 also has shuffleboard and a jogging track that wraps around the ship.
Kids Clubs and Family Fun
Disney Cruise Line is really known for its kids clubs, and the Disney Dream does such a good job with them. The spaces feel way more immersive and thoughtfully designed than a typical kids club, which is a huge reason so many families love cruising with Disney.
The Oceaneer Club is for kids ages 3 to 10 and has some of the coolest themed spaces on any Disney ship, including Andy’s Room, Pixie Hollow, Star Wars Millennium Falcon, and interactive game rooms. The Millennium Falcon area is especially impressive because kids can actually interact with buttons, levers, and controls inside the ship.
Edge is the tween space for ages 11 to 14 and has more of a laid back hangout feel with games, karaoke, crafts, and its own outdoor deck area.
Vibe is just for teens ages 14 to 17 and feels more like a teen lounge with music, games, a dance floor, smoothie bar, seating areas, and organized activities throughout the cruise.
And for babies and toddlers under 3, the it’s a small world nursery is available for an additional hourly fee. Reservations are required, and if you think you’ll use the nursery, it’s a good idea to book it as early as possible.
