A Guide to Lightning Lanes
Everything you need to skip the standby line, so you spend less time waiting and more time in the parks.
Lightning Lanes must be booked by you, through your own Disney account.
What Are Lightning Lanes?
Most rides at Disney World have two lines:
Lightning Lanes let you skip the standby line, saving you time waiting in line.
Three Types of Lightning Lane Passes
The first two let you book passes ahead of time and keep booking throughout your park day, and these are the most popular. You arrive at the ride during a 1-hour window and skip the line.
Multi Pass
Pre-plan multiple rides and rebook all day long.
- Pre-plan up to 3 rides per park day
- After you use one, book another, all day, while rides last
- 1-hour arrival window per booking
Single Pass
For the most popular rides, not in the Multi Pass system.
- Buy up to 2 per person, per day
- Pricing varies by ride and date
- Good for one ride on that attraction
Premier Pass
The no-plan-needed splurge. Just show up and ride.
- Ride each included ride once per day
- No scheduled times, no planning required
- Per person, plus tax (Magic Kingdom runs ~$449)
How to Purchase & Book
You purchase and select your Lightning Lanes right in the Disney app.
Pricing varies by date, park, and attraction, so it helps to know what to expect before you book.
When to Purchase & Book
before check-in, if you're staying on-site
before your check-in date, if you're staying off-site
booking opens on the day you're eligible
You'll need to log in and book your Lightning Lanes to approve the charge, and prices change constantly. US and Canadian guests can book from home. All other international guests need to arrive in the US first.
How to Choose Which Rides to Book

Keep booking all day. Once you use a pass, book another. As long as rides are available, you can keep going.
On the day of your park visit
Once you redeem a Multi Pass selection (ride the ride), use the app to check availability and add another Multi Pass experience. You can make one new pass at a time until regular park closing, subject to availability. With a Park Hopper, your next pass can even be in a different theme park.
Find your booked passes
You can find your booked passes from the homepage or by tapping Lightning Lane Passes in the menu. From there, you can modify what you have or select new passes when it's time.
Modify your plans
Tap the Lightning Lane Passes section on the app's home screen to find your plans. You can change your park and/or date (subject to availability) up until you redeem your first selection of the day, and change each experience or arrival window up until that window starts.
Understanding Multi Pass Tiers
When pre-planning your 3 Multi Pass rides, you'll see two tiers. Because Tier 1 rides are so popular, Disney only lets you pre-book one of them. When you pre-book, you can:
1 ride from Tier 1
+ 2 rides from Tier 2
All 3 rides from Tier 2
Once you're inside the park and start booking new passes, these tiers no longer apply. You can book any ride, any time, based on availability.
