Universal Orlando Lockers: What You Need to Know

Visiting Universal Orlando means experiencing a wide variety of rides, from thrilling roller coasters to 3D and 4D adventures, and even water rides. Many of these attractions require you to store your bags and loose items before you ride, which is why understanding the locker system is so important. (All pricing listed is subject to change)

Types of Lockers at Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando offers three main types of lockers: complimentary ride lockers, pre-paid ride lockers, and all-day lockers. Each type is designed for a different purpose depending on the rides you want to experience and the size of your belongings.

Complimentary Ride Lockers

These lockers are the most commonly used. They are free for the duration of your ride and are located at key attractions in each park.

Universal Studios Florida

  • Revenge of the Mummy

  • MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack

  • Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

  • Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

Universal’s Islands of Adventure

  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster

  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

  • Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

  • Jurassic World VelociCoaster

Universal Epic Universe

  • Hiccup’s Wing Gliders

  • Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment

  • Stardust Racers

  • Fyre Drill (two covered chests on the boat)

  • Dragon Racer’s Rally (covered cubbies)

These lockers are meant for small items like cell phones, wallets, keys, and fanny packs. Larger bags, backpacks, and purses must be placed in the ride lockers. Some attractions, including Stardust Racers, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Jurassic World VelociCoaster, and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, require all loose items to be stored due to Universal’s no-loose-items policy.

Pre-Paid Ride Lockers

Water rides at Islands of Adventure, such as:

  • Jurassic Park River Adventure

  • Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls

  • Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges

do not have complimentary lockers. You can rent short-term lockers for $5 (small) or $6 (large) for the first 90 minutes, with $3 per additional half-hour, up to a $25 daily maximum. For most flume rides, you can safely tuck smaller items under your feet, but renting a locker is a good option for valuables.

At Epic Universe, Fyre Drill is the only water ride. It has covered chests onboard the boat for storing belongings.

All-Day Lockers

If you bring larger items, such as towels, change of clothes, or extra backpacks, all-day lockers are available near park entrances. You can return and access the same locker throughout the day.

Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure

  • Large lockers: $15

  • Family lockers: $20

Universal Epic Universe

  • Large lockers: 11.75 in H x 11 in W x 17.7 in D

  • Family lockers: 17.75 in H x 11 in W x 17.7 in D

All-day lockers are emptied one hour after park closing.

Locker Sizes and Tips

Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure

  • Standard locker: 5.5 in H x 14 in W x 16.9 in D (fits small bags, purses, and cell phones)

  • Large locker: 13 in H x 12 in W x 16.9 in D (fits backpacks and multiple purses, costs $3 plus $3 per half-hour)

Universal Epic Universe

  • Single size: 11.8 in H x 11 in W x 13 in D (fits small to medium backpacks and refillable cups)

Most ride lockers are located near the ride entrance. Some, like Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Epic Universe rides, place lockers midway through the queue so you can keep your items until closer to the ride exit.

How to Use Universal Lockers

The process is simple:

  1. Find the touchscreen at the locker station.

  2. Touch “Rent a Locker.”

  3. Scan your park ticket or thumbprint.

  4. Your assigned locker will open for you to store your items.

Keep your ticket or pass handy to reopen the locker after the ride. Do not store your ticket in the locker. If a locker is paid, you’ll need to scan your ticket at the pay station before the locker opens.

Facial Recognition at Epic Universe

Epic Universe lockers can use facial recognition instead of a park ticket. Press the button, confirm your photo, and the locker opens. This feature is optional, and staff can assist if it doesn’t recognize you.

Packing Tips for Ride Lockers

  • Pack light. Standard complimentary lockers fit small fanny packs and wallets, so large backpacks are not ideal.

  • Use a small bag or fanny pack for rides that do not allow loose items.

  • Lanyards holding Express Passes, tickets, or room keys can be worn but must be tucked inside your shirt on certain rides.

Universal Orlando lockers are easy to use, secure, and make your day in the parks much more comfortable. Knowing what locker type you need and packing accordingly ensures a stress-free experience so you can focus on the fun.
