The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort: A Cozy, Rustic Retreat with Nature at Your Doorstep
Fort Wilderness is one of the more unique places you can stay at Disney World. It is a Moderate Resort with a real outdoorsy, nature feel, and it gives you options: cozy cabins or spacious campsites. You can camp under the stars or settle into a cabin for a quieter retreat, and either way you get that mix of outdoor space and Disney magic. This resort feels like its own destination. I always tell clients staying here to plan at least one resort day so they can actually take time to enjoy the amenities.
My best tip: Reserve a golf cart. The resort is big and spread out, and a cart makes a huge difference.
Note: Through mid-October, soil erosion prevention work will be taking place along the sidewalk on Big Pine Trail. At times, alternate paths of travel may be in place for Guests due to roadway detours. No resort amenities will be impacted by this work, but please be aware that you may see or hear construction activity in the area during business hours.
Theming & Atmosphere
Fort Wilderness sits in a wooded, peaceful part of Disney World that feels removed from the park crowds. The theming is inspired by the American frontier, with tall pines all around and rustic touches throughout. You get a lot of nature and outdoor space, but you are still close to everything at Disney World.
Room Options & Accommodations
You have two very different ways to stay here.
Campsites: Bring your own RV or tent. Sites come with full hook-ups for RVs, or you can tent camp.
Cabins: Fully equipped and roomy, these are great for families who want more space and comfort. Each cabin has a full kitchen, so you can prep meals during your trip.
Dining Options
Fort Wilderness is known for the outdoors, but there are some really good places to eat.
Trail’s End Restaurant (Quick-Service)
A cozy, rustic spot serving hearty, all-you-can-eat American favorites like fried chicken, brisket, and cornbread.
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue (Dinner Show - Reservations Recommended)
A high-energy dinner show with unlimited fried chicken, ribs, and strawberry shortcake. This one books up fast, so let me know early if you want it.
Crockett’s Tavern (Lounge)
A laid-back spot with specialty cocktails, craft beers, and shareable bites like wings and loaded nachos.
The Chuck Wagon (Food Truck)
A casual food truck with burgers, hot dogs, and BBQ sandwiches right in the heart of the resort.
Meadow Snack Bar (Quick-Service)
A poolside snack stand with sandwiches, salads, and cold drinks.
Recreation & Amenities
This is where Fort Wilderness really shines. There is a lot to do:
Archery Experience: A guided archery session for ages 7 and up.
Tri-Circle-D Ranch: Visit Disney's horses, go horseback riding, and let the little ones take a pony ride.
Wagon Rides: A scenic, old-fashioned wagon ride through the resort.
Wilderness Back Trail Adventure: A guided Segway tour on Disney's trails for ages 16 and up.
Sports and Games: Basketball and volleyball courts.
Fishing and Boating: Rent a canoe or kayak, or do some catch-and-release fishing in the bayou.
Campfire Fun: End the night with a Chip 'n' Dale sing-along and a Disney movie under the stars.
Bike Rentals: Ride through the pine forests and meadows.
Jogging Trail: A jog through the meadows and pine and cypress groves.
Transportation & Park Access
A few ways to get around the resort and out to the parks:
Disney Bus Service: Bus stops throughout the resort with access to all four theme parks.
Boat Transportation: A scenic boat ride to Magic Kingdom.
My tip: The boat to Magic Kingdom is such a nice way to start a park day. It is peaceful and scenic, and it beats a bus.
